Where the practice of Yoga brings us together!

Founded in 2017 Seattle SatSanga is both the community we wish to create in the yoga world and a team of new Yoga Instructors Bijoyeta & Jasmine--on a mission to provide accessible and affordable Yoga in an inclusive, safe and welcoming environment in Seattle. We approach the practice of yoga with deep love and respect.  We view the Body as an instrument to foster practices of health, care and healing with the hope that these practices might find their way into our daily living, our relationship with each other and the world around us.

Our teaching style draws inspiration mainly from Iyengar and Jivanmukti Yoga lineages. We focus on mindful movement and safe alignment. Our strength & conditioning exercises are based on our own regular practice and continued education.
Brief Meditation/Pranayama included progressively in sessions.

ABOUT US

BIJOYETA

I have been associated with the practice of Yoga and Pranayama for more than 12 years now.

In India, Yoga (not any particular style though) is usually a part and parcel of every household. It consists of a few regular asanas, meant for general well being.

I did not get into Yoga, however, until my mid-20s, when I began my career as an IT engineer and stress made me put on extra weight which began affecting my metabolism.

I eventually began practicing light & gentle sitting asanas and slowly picked up a Pranayama (breathing) practice.

Moving to the US was both a life and cultural shift for me and Yoga provided the dear refuge that an "alien", far away from home needed.

I began learning Vinyasa in heated Studios, but that took a toll on my ‘breath’. I realized, If you loose your breath, the mind will never achieve ‘stillness’.

Since then, the nature of my practice shifted completely.

I began practicing alone at home and did extensive side reading. I kept visiting a few good Hatha Yoga teachers around town.

Eventually, I undertook my first 200 hr Teacher training from Center for Yoga of Seattle, under the guidance of Richard Schatchel, an advanced teacher in the Iyengar Yoga lineage.

I was fascinated by Alignment-based Yoga, as I think critical alignment and sense of direction based on one’s body type, acts as a foundation for any kind of Asana. The Trauma Informed Yoga training, which I attended recently, also changed my view of the cultural and social aspect of Yoga in the West.

I believe without self-practice, Yoga holds no value for one's 'true self'. A common symptom of our modern lifestyle is Stress and more Stress! Hence it’s necessary that we practice Yoga in a gentle, mindful yet evolutionary way. In time with dedication,  it help us to transform our fast-paced, stressed out lives for one of good health inside & out. The vital things which Yoga has taught me are the Power of Breath, Mindfulness, Patience, Courage and how to get rid of ‘Ego’.

Jasmine

Hi, I'm Jasmine! A Seattle-dweller by way of New York City. Four years ago I moved out West to shift my pace in life and to finally take a yoga teacher training program. I have practiced yoga since I was 19 years old. In the early days, I practiced a 30-minute Vinyasa flow each morning from a Rodney Yee tape.  3-4 times a week I also attended in-person classes at a donation based studio in NYC called Yoga to the People.  Slowly but surely, I found myself winding down the yogic path. After spending a semester of my undergrad studying the philosophy & practice of yoga at The New School (under the guidance of Paula Tursi), I knew that one day, I would become an instructor. I have explored a wide variety of styles from Vinyasa, Hatha, Anusara, Forrest, Jivamukti, and Iyengar. My style of teaching is most influenced by Hatha, Iyengar, and Jivamukti yoga.  In June of 2017, I completed my 200-hour teacher training at the Center for Yoga of Seattle. It was in this month-long immersive program that Bijoyeta and I met and began our yogic friendship! Yoga has been a guiding force in my entire adult life. It has seen me through many physical injuries, mental health struggles and all the general hubbub that makes up a life. Developing your own personal practice can be a most transformative endeavor if one is willing to engage in self-observation & mindfulness, self-love, and patience.
